On The Broken (kernel)
When I was younger, I thought I noticed that the brilliant people (not all of them, to be sure, but enough to be statistically significant) flew. When younger, they used to fly - as children they made themselves airborne.

Now that I'm older, I'm beginning to notice that all of the brilliant people are broken. Brilliant but spacy, brilliant but without past, brilliant but afflicted, brilliant but horrific. Brilliant all, but broken all.

A fraternity of broken geniuses, a secret society of the idiot savants, a family of those who have suffered - who do suffer - from what the rest of society views as weaknesses, but who still excel, who still contemplate, and think. Who still shine brighter than anything else, if only you look deep enough to notice.

We are the Brilliant. We are the Broken.

Oh, I'm hanging in there. But maybe I'm not brilliant. No, I am.

Heh.. You've been confusing me lately.. It seems that every other day I'm either being friended, or unfriended by you.

I'd expect nothing less than your hanging darling

I'm pretty freaking broken right now. Brilliant I won't claim. But eh, it's a good sentiment.

You don't need to claim brilliance to have others claim it for you.

Read your what?

My little memoir thing in my LJ. Just before the love meme. I mentioned it, but I promise to pimp no further.

That's one of the reasons I'm sure I'm not brilliant; I haven't suffered at all. :-)

I think you've got this all wrong.

Life is a comedy for those who think... and a tragedy for those who feel.

Horace Walpole

I think more than I feel, and life is mostly a fuckin' laugh riot for me. There are just too many things that are so incredibly stupid about the world we live in to take it seriously.

Although, I should add, that I think someone needs to learn how to stop feeling and start thinking to see the humour.

If I'm brilliant, it would explain why I'm so broken. But I'm not sure I'd go so far as to claim brilliance.

oh, wow. and so very true. it seems everyone i've chosen to interact with lately is very brilliant and very broken. i did try to consider what it is that compels me to draw such people into my life (i am not going to follow the route these comments have gone in saying whether i believe myself to be one of them, as relevant as it may be) but ended up just thinking "it's as it should be." it's sort of sad, though, because even during the times when i'm completely enraptured by the brilliance, there's always a little piece of me waiting to understand what has been raped or ground into a pulp. the broken parts always end up becioming the ones i love the most, however, or at least the ones i become the most obsessed with. (love, obsession, no difference, except that the existence can be proven of only one.)

I would post something insightful, but after reading this post, "We are the world, we are the children" is distractingly running through my head... :-/

Although I admit that I sometimes seek out the broken ones. We seem to get along better, they are more interesting to know, and perhaps more often brilliant.
